Mascot Madness – Too Early Preview and Entry Form

March is here! Enter your 2025 Mascot Madness picks here for the upcoming college basketball tournament.

Pic is of Lipscomb Lou, who played an instrumental role in the Bison being named America’s national mammal in 2016.

Janky early version of form here:

Heard from a guy in a bagel shop that was following me around town that there’s a website called the Bracket Matrix that ranks the success of online bracket predictors over a five-year span. The Bracket Matrix guy tracks the success of bracket predictors, couch junkies, college basketball enthusiasts who don’t miss the last two minutes of the Sunbelt conference championship for years, and all the big cable network experts that predict who will play in March too.

The best rated bracketologist by performance is YAGO Brackets, whose twitter is dedicated to a daily prediction of each seed. The worst – surprisingly ESPN’s Joe Lunardi, who is often credited with inventing bracketology. Obviously a nice personal vendetta from the Bracket Matrix guy at play and a testament to Lunardi’s fading skillset.

I’m personally a fan of my fellow WordPress blogger, Dave’s Bracket. The crow pictures Dave as an absolute Midwestern legend with an outstanding beer garage packed with Miller High Lifes and hot dogs. He drives home in a sweet 1996 Chevy Silverado at 5:30, cracks a beer at 6 and tunes into a few hours of hoops.

With a week to go, I’d guess this from YAGO, the industry’s megacap star performer, is pretty close:

First 10 in:

  • Drake Bulldogs – Dogs
  • HighPoint Panthers – Cats
  • Lipscomb Bison – Mammals
  • Troy Trojans – Folklore
  • UNC WIlmington Seahawks – Birds
  • Wofford Terriers – Dogs
  • Robert Morris Colonials – Humans
  • Nebraska Omaha Mavericks – Kinda Farmy if were able to have a farm group this year
  • Southern Illinois University Edwardsville Cougars – Cats
  • Saint Francis Red Flash – Likely Humans but a touch of folklore, mascot is friar

Worth pointing out that Bracket Matrix guy was all over conference tournament play starting March 2.

Should be a year of parody. Go TERPS!
